Pandit Jai Kishan Maharaj, an exceptionally talented dancer, comes from a well-known family of dance professionals in the nation. He represents the Lucknow Kalka-Bindadin Gharana’s eighth generation. From an early age, Pt. Jai Kishan absorbed the art of Kathak with tremendous devotion being the son of the legendary maestro Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj. Pt. Jai Kishan Maharaj Ji is the ‘Ganda Bandhan’ Disciple of Pt. Birju Maharaj Ji(His Father and Guru).

He has developed into a highly accomplished artist now. His approach is characterised by meteoric raciness, attentive celerity, inventive “Abhinaya,” exceptional footwork, and moves that are charged with energy.

He also has the ability to choreograph, write music, and write lyrics, among other things. With his inventive choreography for the immensely popular Hindi film “Dil to Pagal Hai” by Yash Copra, he has added another achievement to his resume. He has won numerous honours, including the Business and Entertainment Award, the Bharat Icon Award, the Delhi Ratna Award, and the Gaurav Award, to name a few.

The most notable quality of Pandit Jai Kishan Maharaj is his capacity for invention. Pandit Jai Kishan Maharaj began working for the Kathak Kendra on August 9, 1985. He has been serving as the organization’s Kathak Guru since July 2009, and he also has choreographic responsibility for the repertory.

In Kathak, he originated the Left Portion(bai ang) and encouraged it. He taught contemporary kathak like the Chaitna ballet based on aids(Dance Drama), Krishna based kathak which are bansuri, vrij bansi, etc. He’s an amazing singer, Musician, Writer, Composer too. He has Written more than 300 Bandishen(Items) like Laghu Ramayan, Thumri, Dadra, Ghazal, Bhajan, etc.

Personal Life

Pandit Jai Kishan Maharaj Ji was born on 12th of May 1962. His childhood was like a traditional yet fascinating plea of tails. He got married to Rubi Mishra with 1 son who is a Kathak expert himself, and a daughter-in-law who is an expert in Bharatnatyam.

In the gharane dar family, the expert Pandit Jai Kishan Maharaj Ji, Kathak Guru has created amazing innovations in the Kathak world. Through his generational talent, he learned all about kathak through his father Pandit Birju Maharaj at a very tender age. Nritya flow in and through his veins. Sur-Taal & Ghungroo – played hand-in-hand along with his rhythmic hand moves.

He made his own bright face in the Nritya world and won many recognitions and awards like Prayag Sangit, Kherachand Mahotsav 2017, etc. Along in India, his amusement spread across the globe too.
